The Athens chapter of Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has as its primary goal the elimination of poverty in Athens-Clarke, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties by providing homeless families a simple, decent place to live. The Ark is a ministry outreach center located at 640-A Barber Street, staffed almost wholly by volunteers, where those who lack the basic necessities of life can come for help. Our Daily Bread is a service of Athens Urban Ministry which provides food, compassion, hospitality and the gospel for poor and disadvantaged people in the greater Athens Area. The Athens Area Homeless Shelter, located at 620 Barber Street, is dedicated to providing emergency as well as permanent housing to the homeless in Northeast Georgia and to increasing awareness about homelessness. The Athens Salvation Army offers counseling and financial assistance to those in need at its office located at 484 Hawthorne Ave. They also operate a shelter for men, women and children and a soup line, open to all those who are hungry, seven days a week. Project Safe ...Project Safe's mission is to provide safety and assistance to victims of domestic violence while working with the community in hopes of one day ending violence against women and their children.
