OUR BENEFICIARY ORGANIZATIONS

The Run/Walk for Home 5k raises money each year to assist in funding Athens area initiatives for the less fortunate. Below are the organizations who will benefit from the funds raised during this year's race.

Athens Nurses' Clinic ... This nurse-run clinic on Reese St. treats a range of health problems and needs in Athens' medically underserved and homeless population. The clinic gladly accepts donations of soap, deodorant, shampoo, disposable razors, toothbrushes and clean or new white cotton socks. If you can help call (706) 613-6976.

Athens Area Habitat for Humanity ... The Athens chapter of Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has as its primary goal the elimination of poverty in Athens-Clarke, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties by providing homeless families a simple, decent place to live. Volunteers are always needed to help Habitat families build homes. You don't have to be a carpenter to help! To find out more call (706) 208-1001.

The Ark ... The Ark is a ministry outreach center located at 640-A Barber Street, staffed almost wholly by volunteers, where those who lack the basic necessities of life can come for help. Volunteers are always welcome at The Ark to help conduct interviews and to serve as intake workers. For more information call (706) 548-8155.

Our Daily Bread ... Our Daily Bread is a service of Athens Urban Ministry which provides food, compassion, hospitality and the gospel for poor and disadvantaged people in the greater Athens Area. Volunteers are needed to cook and serve meals as well as to help with advertising, public relations and fund-raising. Donations of food, money and health and hygiene items are always welcome. Athens Area Homeless Shelter ... The Athens Area Homeless Shelter, located at 620 Barber Street, is dedicated to providing emergency as well as permanent housing to the homeless in Northeast Georgia and to increasing awareness about homelessness. To find out more, call (706) 354-0423 and ask to receive a quarterly newsletter. The shelter also needs volunteers willing to cook and serve its residents.

The Salvation Army ... The Athens Salvation Army offers counseling and financial assistance to those in need at its office located at 484 Hawthorne Ave. They also operate a shelter for men, women and children and a soup line, open to all those who are hungry, seven days a week. Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to help with the soup line and in the thrift stores to help with inventory and sales. Please call (706) 543-5350 for more information.

Project Safe ...Project Safe's mission is to provide safety and assistance to victims of domestic violence while working with the community in hopes of one day ending violence against women and their children. Financial contributions, as well as donations of food, clothing, toys, and health and beauty aids are always welcome. Volunteers willing to tutor children or staff the crisis intervention hotline are also appreciated. Call (706) 549-0922, if you would like to help.
